"If it wasn't for the difficulty upon my nation, verily I would have ordered them with the miswâk at the time of every wudoo".
Indeed, it has been reported that it (the miswâk) is a sunnah of the prophets, consequently the first to use the miswâk was Ibraaheem (alaihi salaam) and the Messenger (sallalAllahu alaihi was sallam) has explained that it is a purifier for the mouth, meaning a cleaner for it from that which is disliked, and that it is a pleaser to The Lord, meaning it pleases The Lord The Most High.

On the authority of Al-Miqdaam ibn Maadiy-Karib who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah(SAW) saying: "No human ever filled a vessel worse than the stomach. Sufficient for any son of Adam are some morsels to keep his back straight. But if it must be, then one third for his food, one third for his drink and one third for his breath." (Ahmad, At-Tirmidhi, An-Nasaa'i). Ibn Masaweh, a Muslim doctor, said after reading this hadith: "If the people only used these words, they would avoid all diseases and maladies and the clinics and pharmacies would be idle."

"By the Fig and the Olive.." [Surah at-Teen; 95:1] Figs are thought to be originally from small Asia and are one of the first fruits cultivated ever. It is said that humans could live on Figs alone as a source of food -- such is the goodness and nutrition in the fruit! Figs are a rich source of calcium, iron, magnesium, Vitamin B6, and potassium. Figs are low in fat and high in fibre. They provide more fiber than any other common fruit or vegetable. Figs have many health benefits. Fresh and dry figs are high in pectin, a soluble fibre that can reduce blood cholesterol. The fruit is also believed to have a laxative effect and can aid those who suffer from chronic constipation.

Olives (Zaytun) have numerous health benefits, including being rich in Vitamins (in particular Vitamin E), minerals, monounsaturated fats, and anti-oxidants. They are full of nutritional value, helping to fight against a number of critical diseases; including cancer, arthritis, osteoprosis, constipation, inflammation and asthma. It isn’t any wonder that Allah (Ta’ala) has sworn by the Olive in the Qur’an; "By the Fig and the Olive, and the Mount of Sinai..." [surah at-Teen; 95: 1-2] Another indication of the Olive representing life and goodness can be taken from the Olive branch bought back by the Pigeon which Prophet Nuh (alayhis salam) released from the ship to examine the state of the floods. When the pigeon brought back the olive branch, he (alayhis salam) knew that the land had reappeared and that vegetation was growing. |

"We made from water every living thing" (21:30)

Islam ascribes the most sacred qualities to water as a life-giving, sustaining and purifying resource. It is the origin of all life on earth, the substance from which Allah created man (25:54), and the Holy Qur’an emphasizes its centrality: "We made from water every living thing" (21:30)
Water is the primary element that existed even before the heavens and the earth did: "And it is He who created the heavens and the earth in six days, and his Throne was upon the waters" (11:7). |
